About

Certified-multi-Platinum recording artist and 2010 Aliw Awards Best Male Concert Performer Richard Poon is the Philippines’ multi-awarded Big-Band Crooner. This 100% Chinese singer’s unique brand of music (Big-Band/Standards), and cool, soothing voice has made him charmingly stand out in a crowded sea of pop male balladeers.

Richard sings the “Standards”( immortal melodies written in the 1950′s that have survived the test of time)  popularized by Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Matt Monro, Paul Anka, Nat King Cole.)

Like  younger crooners Michael Buble & Harry Connick Jr., Richard’s passion is to blur the generational lines by masterfully giving the old classics a fresh, young twist. Many consider RP to be this generation’s Jose Mari Chan.

Breaking into the Philippine music industry in January 2008, his debut solo album “I’ll Take Care Of You”(MCA Music) soared to Gold and Platinum status. His hit single “I’ll Take Care Of You” has then become the favorite serenade of couples in Philippine wedding circles.

Further solidifying his excellent musicianship, Richard won prestigious back-to-back awards as he won both the 2008 Awit Awards’ Best New Male Recording Artist and the 2008 Aliw Awards Best Male Performer in Hotels, Bars and Music Lounges.

On June 2009, Richard was awarded Breakthrough Artist of the Year by the 1st Radio Music Awards. By November, he bagged the 2009 Best Male Entertainer and Recording Artist by the Dangal Ng Bayan “Who’s Who in the Philippines”. Come December, RP won the Awit Awards Best Jazz Recording for his original song “Momma Said So” which he wrote and produced for British/Filipino phenom Charlie Green.

Adding to his list of achievements, RP’s  follow-up sophomore album “For You” (MCA Music) turned Gold and now has achieved Platinum status!

Amazingly, Richard continues to draw families and audiences of all ages as he surprises them by showcasing his own unexpected, classic, Big-Band arrangements of today’s contemporary hits like  Avril Lavigne’s “Complicated”, Chaka Khan’s “Through the Fire”, Florida/T-Pain’s “Low”, Beyonce’s “Single Ladies” & “Irreplaceable”, Rhianna’s “Umbrella”, Sean Kingston’s “Beautiful Girls”, Jason Mraz’s “I’m Yours”, Lady Gaga’s “Pokerface”, Korean hit “Nobody”, and recently Justin Bieber’s worldwide hit “Baby”.

Behind the spotlight, RP writes, arranges and composes originals for various artists:

“Up Up Down Down” for teen pop-country duo Krissy and Ericka.  His Awit Award-winning composition “Momma Said So” for Fil/Brit boy wonder Charlie Green(Star Records). The romantic lullaby “Lalala” in Piolo Pascual/Regine Velasquez movie “Paano Kita Iibigin” (VIVA Films/Star Cinema).  ”Turuan Mo Ako” for Piolo Pascual’s “Timeless” album (STAR Records). New original  ”Be Mine” for Sam Milby’s new album,  and another ballad in Diamond artist Nina’s upcoming album release.

Gifted with the ability to communicate and connect with a wide variety of audiences, Richard has become one of the most-sought-after performers in weddings, corporate shows & high-society affairs in the metro and in the provinces.

RP’s music goes beyond Philippine shores as he regularly performs for our fellow Filipinos in Australia, Canada, Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, U.S., Dubai, and Guam.

Currently, Richard sings regularly every Sunday at ASAP Rocks(ABS-CBN channel 2) with the powerhouse cast of ASAP Sessionistas with Bossa Nova princess Sitti, powerful belter & Diamond Record Awardee Nina, well loved pop-folk singer/guitarist Aiza Seguerra, sweet-singing Juris Fernandez(formerly of MYMP), R&B singer Duncan Ramos and new acoustic performer Princess Velasco.
